The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines the coaching process as “partnering with clients in a thought provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership”. They continue, “We all have goals we want to reach, challenges we’re striving to overcome and times when we feel stuck. Partnering with a coach can change your life, setting you on a path to greater personal and professional fulfillment.”
Coaching can be used for individuals, partnerships, teams, and organizations to help them identify their goals and create plans to achieve them. Coaching embraces the fact that people are naturally resourceful, creative and capable of finding answers to their challenges. To help them, the coach leverages Socratic Dialogue, attentive listening and other coaching tools that are specifically designed to enhance discovery.
The following pages explain the process for coaching individuals, partnerships, teams and organizations. This walkthrough describes the steps the coach will take to become familiar with the client and help solidify the coaching relationship. It also describes how various coaching sessions may look.
